The Lake and the Islands

The Lake and the Islands

-  Lago di Bolsena (VT)

Lake Bolsena is the largest volcanic lake in Italy (44 sq. mi). There’s a great variety of fish such as carp, pike, eels and white fish in its crystal clear waters. There are many quaint villages that crown the hillside and frame its shoreline. In the early Renaissance the lake became a favorite vacation spot of the Farnese Family and their aristocratic following. There are two small islands, the Bisentina and Martana Island. There are day tours of the lake that are aboard a local fishing boat that can take you for a day tour of the lake to see the picturesque sites only visible by boat.
